I have an original and a test pressing of this, and while the original is great, the Alto Analogue is even better. since the tape burned up in the UMG fire, good sounding copies of this album are only going to become /5().

Gil Evans recorded the album a short time after completing a six-week job at the Jazz Gallery club in New York City; the personnel was largely the same, with Elvin Jones being added.: –6 Music. The first track, "La Nevada", was also recorded by Evans less than two years earlier for the album Great Jazz Standards; the version for Out of the Cool is given a consistent rhythmic Genre: Jazz.

  5. This LP was Evans' first post-Miles recording, and the album's title, Out Of The Cool, is an obvious nod to that fact (a play on Davis' own Birth Of The Cool). The album showcases two significant Evans compositions, the groundbreaking 'La Nevada' and 'Sunken Treasure'. 45 RPM audiophile version in a numbered first pressing limited to copies.

  7. Out of the Cool, released in , was the first recording Gil Evans issued after three straight albums with Miles Davis -- Sketches of Spain being the final one before this. Evans had learned much from Davis about improvisation, instinct, and space (the trumpeter learned plenty, too, especially about color, texture, and dynamic tension).
